Race meetings at the West Wales raceourse Ffos Las have been drastically cut from 28 to 16 by the British Horseracing Authority (BHA). The move has prompted calls for an ‘urgent meeting’ by Tim Long, general manager of the Carmarthanshire course.

The cuts are part of the BHA’s plans to suspend 150 fixtures in 2011. It says the decision “will only be reconsidered if racecourses and the Horsemen’s Group agree a basis for their allocation and make a proposal to the Board”.

The cuts have come as a blow to the track, which opened in June last year as the first new turf horseracing course in Britain for decades.
